Born in Morgantown, WV but raised in Iowa and Western Maryland, Dan graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies in 2003. After moving to Chicago, Dan was blessed to work as a professional musician, performing 5-7 nights a week. After around 10 years of this work, he began realizing a new calling toward working in and being a part of making urban schools really work for the students they serve. Through Teach for America, Dan became certified as a Special Education Teacher and earned a Master’s degree in Special Education at Dominican University. He worked at EPIC Academy High School and Chicago Collegiate Middle School before relocating to the Seattle area with his family (wife and baby girl). Dan is ecstatic to be a part of an organization that is looking forward to what schools need to be for the 21st century and preparing their students to be leaders in this new and changing world.
