Malia's Maternity Plan, Music Club & Navigation Center Meeting • September 22nd, 2017

Dear Spartan Families,

As many of you know, I am expecting my first baby in the next week. My family and I are so excited about welcoming a new little person into the world. Although we are not yet sure of the arrival date, I will begin my maternity leave when I go into labor and will return to Sierra in late January or early February, depending on my delivery date.

Sierra will be well supported in my absence by Denice Randle, our amazing Assistant Director and Tianna Lopez, our fabulous Operations Manager. We have also hired a full time Operations Assistant, Hibo Mukhtar (, who will be supporting operations and Ms. Lopez. We have also offered leadership opportunities for teachers during my leave. Aubree Gomez, Camden Hanzlick-Burton, Richard Irvan, Erica Baba, and Dustin Dacuan will be taking on projects that I worked on in years past to support our school and as part of their own leadership development.

As of my due date, please send questions and concerns that you would have addressed to me to Ms. Randle at or 253-921-2363.

We have also outlined who to contact for the most commonly asked questions here.

We will send an announcement and photo when our little one arrives. Finally, thank you so much for the support you have given me and for the role model parents you have been. You all have taught me so much about what it looks like to love, raise, and support wonderful young people.

With tremendous gratitude,
